ヒロイン失格 (Heroine Shikkaku) - Chapter 15
Kousuke: "Can you give Hatori-chan to me? From the way i see it, you are just a kid. Are you BAKA? There is no reason for Hatori to like someone like you!"
Kousuke's thoughts "What should i do?"
Hatori's thoughts "Until just now, i was in so much happiness...
Nakajima: "Hatori, how was it? Are you crying?"
Hatori: "NAKAJIMAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Nakajima: "WHY? WHAT HAPPENED?"
Hatori: "What is it about being strong? Why is more advantages being the weak one? It's not that i like to be strong, i'm actually very weak. Even though so, i work hard. What's with 'I have Nakajima by my side'. Adachi is alone because she does not put in effort to make friends!...
Hatori's thoughts "Stop joking with me. I hate Rita."
Nakajima: "Are you really going home? Should i leave school early as well? Are you coming to school tomorrow?" and she thinks to herself " It's alright if she doesn't think of something strange."
Hatori's thoughts "I'm going to do something wrong, it's all Rita's fault. Without Rita around, it's the same as me being alone. Can't he leave Adachi aside? Even though i cried that badly, i being left aside. He didn't love me, even for a little. I had enough."
Nakajima: "What and why are you like this?"
Hatori: "I've decided to be a nun. It's scary to do something wrong."
Nakajima: "I don't understand at all!" and she pulls away the fake bald head from Hatori.
Hatori: "That is why i said i'm becoming a nun."
Nakajima: "Which is why i'm asking what happened?"
Hatori: "I've decided to not fall in love and become a dumb ass again. I've worked hard but there is no guarantee that i will get my reward. I've realized that love is something useless."
Nakajima: "Which is why...."
A loud laughter came for a far. It's Kousuke.
Kouseke: "That's the reason why you decided to be a nun? Hatori is really a genius!"
Moe: "Kou-chan, you are laughing too much. Moe will support too."
Kousuke: "Are you able to not fall in love? Hatori-chan is someone special."
Hatori's eyes are filled with tears after hearing Kousuke's words but she becomes strong again!
Hatori: "It's alright. I don't need guys anymore. The pre-bell is ringing." and she puts on her fake bald head and heads back to the classroom.
Nakajima: "Don't put it back on! You are really an idoit. You can't move forward doing that. And Kousuke, what do you plan on doing with Hatori? Tell me. Do you like Hatori?"
Moe: "Moe wants to know too."
Kousuke: "Of course i like Hatori. She's cute."
Kousuke: "That is impossible."
Nakajima: "It isn't?"
Kousuke: "Maybe."
Nakajima: "Then why are you getting close to Hatori?"
Kousuke: "I think that it's going to be interesting. I'm thinking if i'm going to be real towards Hatori if she dislike Terasaka-kun." and Rita heard him.
Nakajima: "You are really free and like a kid."
Kousuke: "So that means i'm a very free kid. Nakajima-san, are you going to stop me?"
Nakajima: "Not really. It's good for that BAKA (Hatori). I'm thinking if it's better for Hatori to be going out with Kousuke-kun. Which is much better then keep liking Terasaka."
Rita heard all the conversation.
Hatori's thoughts "If my eyes meet Rita's, i'm going to give him the world coldest look." and she wore the world coldest look on her fave while doing her duties as a class representative for the cultural festival.
Hatori: "Please write down the name of the person you want to represent the class for the Mr and Miss contest. Please write my name for the Miss."
and she sees Rita. He's lying with his head on the desk.
Hatori's thought "He knows that i'm speaking now. What attitude is that? He's unwilling to look over here. There's no meaning for me to give him the world coldest look then."
Rita: "Oi Hiromitsu."
Kousuke: "Why?"
Rita: "I'm begging you to stop having any contact with Hatori."
Kousuke: "This is none of Terasaka-kun's business. Do you know that you are in no position to say these words to me?"
Rita: "I don't wish for Hatori to be hurt again."
Rita: "What the meaning of doing such things? To insult me indirectly? Doing such useless thing, she's going to get hurt all over again. Don't take it as joke!"
Kousuke: "Do you think of me as such an evil person? Even if it's only for a little, i think i'm more honest towards girls when compared with Terasaka-kun."
Rita: "What are you saying?"
Kousuke: "If you are this worried about Hatori, break up with Adachi now. immediately. You can't do it?...
Hatori collects back the paper slips and she thinks to herself "Just as i've thought, it's all Rita's name."
Kousuke appears from behind: "It's all Rita's name! It's tiring doing the calculations."
Hatori: "It's nothing."
Kousuke: "Don't push yourself too much. Instead of not pushing yourself too much, you should be clear headed" and he give Hatori a bottle of drink.
Hatori: "What is that now? You seems to be focusing on Rita."
Kousuke: "It seems that you are much more clear headed now. You know that we have not officially broken up yet?"
Kousuke: "However, did i say that we are broken up?"
Hatori: "I'm such a BAKA."
Kousuke: "Hatori-chan, do you still want to love Terasaka-kun? Hatori-chan mentioned it before that you like Terasaka-kun and that is why we should break up."
Hatori: "I want to give up already but i still like him."
Kousuke: "Do you still have anymore reason to like Terasaka-kun?"
Kousuke: "Why are you crying?"
Hatori: "I don't know." and she thinks to herself "Even though i'm unable to take the fact that i like Rita... I see... there is nothing more to it."
Hatori cries in Kousuke's arms.
Hatori wipe her tears and asked: "Who is she?"
Kousuke: "Amy-san! Going back after the drinking party?"
Amy: "Kousuke, you made another girl cry again?"
Kouske: "Nope, i'm not the one who made her cry."
Amy: "Good Evening, i'm Amy, Kousuke's ex- gf. There's something i want to ask you. Come over to my place."
Kousuke: "Eh... are you sure?"
Amy: "It's alright. Take my bag."
Hatori still in shocked and asked: "How long has it been?"
Amy: "What are you asking? Are you asking how long has it been since we broke up? It's been 2 years."
Amy: "What do you mean by this person..."
Hatori's thoughs "Why am i in such a situation?"
Kousuke: "She swindled me since the first day. I was 13 then."
Amy: "I was almost 20."
Kousuke: "That was a crime."
Hatori's thoughts "Why am i listening to you first love with a broken heart? Are the both of you even listening to me?"
Amy: "I had enough, Kousuke isn't cute anymore recently. Pretending to be cool. Without me you are nothing but a kid."
Kousuke: "I've learnt everything from Amy-san... all those bad things."
Amy: "All those bad things only?"
Hatori's thought "It's the first time see Kousuke met someone he can't handle." and she asked: "Why did the both of you broke up?"
Kousuke: "Cause i was too kiddish that is why she dump me."
Kousuke: "Amy-san was supported by those rich and handsome during her university years. Comparatively, i lost out."
Amy: "However, to Kousuke, i'm the best."
Kousuke: "Yes. Yes."
Amy: "Do you understand the meaning of the best?"
Kousuke: "I understand. Please take a drink."
Amy: "I going to the toilet."
Hatori's thoughts "Since just now, this lady has been all about herself." and she asked: "Kousuke, are you alright?"
Kousuke: "About?"
Hatori: "Kousuke-kun still like Amy-san right? It's the first time i see Kousuke putting yourself so low. However, i think Amy-san isn't aware of it. However, it's happy when you are wanted by someone right?"
Kousuke is laughing out loud inside and said: "I really don't feel bad at all."
Hatori's thought "I see. This is how Kousuke-kun is feeling."
Amy came out from the toilet and Hatori shouted at her: "Hey Auntie!"
Hatori: "Of course. Can't you see that you are the only aunite around. That is because Kousuke is cool! He's results are good and he's good in basketball. He's like a idol in school and he's like an Espa who knows how others are feeling. Everything Kousuke-kun said till now are all right. He's great. Even though he always tell me the truth which i don't wish to know but he's always there to help me. He's not a kid... not only is he not a kid, he's someone cool! What with that 'Kousuke is mine' appeal? You might not know about no one is actually looking at you....
Hatori's thought: "It's alright for you not to feel pitiful."
Kousuke: "Thank You very much Hatori."
Hatori: "Ojiamanshimasu." and Hatori left. Kousuke can't stop laughing out in his heart.
Amy: "Kou-chan. You have an interesting friend don't you?"
Kousuke's thoughs "Saying that, you too. revealing your true colors." and he said: "i'm bored and i'm going home."
Amy: "You you like, we can again..."
Kousuke: "Again? I'm not going to appear before Amy-san again....
Hatori's thought "What am i doing?"

The arc for Kousuke is building up from this chapter onwards. However, i'm wondering if Kousuke really likes Hatori and Rita is irritating. Why does he always shows concern towards Hatori only after hurting her badly?

Yay!!! Thank you so much!!! I like this chapter much better than the last one. Unfortunately, I don't think Kousuke likes Hatori right now - it seems like he just finds her interesting, or worse, amusing. However, that doesn't mean he might not genuinely fall for her later on. He seemed startled when she defended him to his ex-girlfriend; speaking of the ex, I guess we know why Kousuke is the way he is now, right? He was "corrupted" at an early age.
Rita always hurts Hatori, feels bad about it, then goes and hurts her again. I hope the mangaka is not trying to make us hate him less by showing his concern for her this chapter, because that might mean he still has a chance to be the "end guy." And I really think Rita is beyond redemption at this point.
I found the sentence with "and Rita is irritating" at the end pretty funny. You can put that everywhere in all chapters because it is always true. :P
This is turning out very much like Gone with the Wind and I am frightened for Hatori.
In Gone with the Wind, Scarlet likes her childhood friend, who out of the blue decides to go with a very dull boring girl. So throughout the whole movie Scarlet tries to prove that she is the one for her childhood friend, and Rhett, an infamous man, helps her a bit, but mostly finds Scarlett's unrequited love amusing. Along the way he starts falling for Scarlet but she's too dumb to realise this. By the time she realises that Rhett was the only one there for her, she declares her love to him and he replies with the most famous movie quote- that he doesn't care anymore.
I hope it doesn't end like this but everything is just so similar...

About kousuke: I´m so happy he was in this chapter >3< he was kind of forgotten lately xD I missed him, I went "squeaaal! Fangirl Mode: ON <333" when he rejected his ex-gf >3< <3 still I wish he get more interested in Hatori, I don´t want him (nor either guy) to play with her feelings (she suffered enough thanks to her idiotic usual self, I just simply love how blunt he can be sometimes (I loved when he told Rita to break with Adachi if he cared about Hatori) I think right now he´s the only one that can say something to Hatori and she will accept it even if that makes her cry (because she just kind of ignore Nakajima xD poor girl, she´s such a great friend)

Thanks so much for the summary! What a fun chapter - very light on Rita, and how delightful to finally have a character on the canvas whose more vile than him. Welcome aboard, Auntie Amy! It was so nice of you to pop up and give me some reasons to like Hatori again.
@Mikimata: I think, when you said "corrupted," you meant molested, right? I'll just take a cue from H, and spend the rest of Auntie Amy's visit being grossed out - who wants to listen to some creepy predator discuss how un-cute the kid she abused is now that he's, you know, hit puberty? Yeah, whatever, Mary Kay Letourneau, if you were as awesome and mature as you think you are, you wouldn't have dated a friggin' child in the first place.
Regarding Kousuke's motives, I do think he likes Hatori - I just think he likes her in a normal way. He laughed at the notion of "love" because, well, after puppy love, who really gets there that soon? I maintain that he finds her cute and interesting - and if dating her should result in people like Rita feeling annoyed, those are just happy side effects. His interest in her may not be serious by shoujo standards, but I don't find anything sinister in that. He likes her casually.
(I also think, after this chapter, that maybe he sees himself in her - and perhaps Rita in Auntie Amy... will need another chapter to work this out).
To be honest, I think H needs that. There is no middle ground for her - she can't be casual. Either she devotes her self heart and soul to a guy, or she becomes a nun... she lives in extremes. Which is crazy, and part of her growth I think is going to be in finding that balance. Maybe Kousuke's not the guy for her, but he's an alternative - and sometimes the most important thing is knowing you have options. For Hatori, here at her lowest low, the best thing she could realize is that she can make choices that don't involve Rita. That he doesn't control her. That maybe he's not the only guy for her.
And Rita should pay attention to K's remarks. He IS more honest towards girls than R is - and a part of that is because he's more honest towards himself. It's something K and H share in common, actually - that uncomfortable honesty. Hatori is brutally, painfully honest with herself and others - she's the truth Rita can't stop running from. Kousuke is also brutally honest, but where H can't seem to help herself, K skillfully wields the truth like a weapon - choosing to speak it when it will inflict the most damage or cause the most impact.
Rita, whose defining aspect is his cowardice, is afraid of K (just as he fears H) because people like that are mirrors - They show you just how ugly you are. What was great about the Rita/Kousuke exchange in this chapter was just that. Never has the former been more hypocritical than he was here, confronting this guy, who has been perfectly honest and upfront about his intentions, with the soppy rhetoric of a fake martyr - and doing it all without H's knowledge (like, what's stopping him from going to her directly with his concerns about K and letting the "too strong" girl deal with the information herself, hmm?) And how does Kousuke respond to this pitiful pretense? He deals directly with the accusation, and then responds to the subtext too. Like, "Rita if you are so concerned for Hatori, you'd do something about your OWN BS rather than employing backdoor methods like these. You can only show her a modicum of respect and care behind her back? Dude, GTFO. Here's a mirror."
In conclusion, I enjoy K. Also, nothing is discouraging me from my suspicion that the mangaka hates Rita as much as we do... Can't wait for the next installment!
Heh, SoFree - yes, I guess I was looking for a more delicate word, but molested is pretty much what happened. Kousuke himself called it a crime! I do basically like Kousuke, and think he somewhat likes Hatori...I'm just a bit uneasy with how he keeps using words like "interesting" as if she were some sort of lab experiment. It feels like he sees her as a diversion from his everyday boredom. But I do think he finds her cute and fun to be around, which is certainly a good start.
And I always love your comments about Rita; you describe his "personality", or lack thereof, so succinctly. He is such a weak, measly little coward. I hope Adachi comes to her senses and dumps him soon, because he deserves to die alone and afraid. After this chapter, even Hatori seems to finally be getting the message that it's time to give up and move on. At least I hope so. :)
I was a bit worried when the ex-girlfriend showed up because there's that common theme in shoujo where the third corner of a love triangle is actually secretly still in love with some other girl who turned him down and/or hurt him and was just nursing a broken heart by clinging to the main character... and then their old flame comes back and reciprocates their feelings, nicely pairing them off so we don't have to worry that he's sad or lonely or didn't get the happy ending he deserved.
However, I'm pleased to see that this mangaka continues to defy convention and pretty much shot down this cliche at the end of the chapter. I really want Hatori to end up with Kousuke, so I was afraid that this Amy chick was gonna take him back and mess everything up... But since that's probably not gonna happen, I'm still hopeful! Go Kousuke! I hope he develops feelings for Hatori!

omg i think i fell in love with Kosuke lol . it's so rare that I can fall in love with other boys than the main chara . I liked Rita too , actually , I'm rooting for Rita x Hatori , but yeah , in the other hand , Kousuke seemed a little bit more suited for Hatori (for the moment) . But I'm still thinking about Kousuke just being playful with Hatori (if this really happen , i think i wouldn't read any more of this mangaka's work :p *peace) lol . as far as this manga goes , I love this chapter the most ! Hi, its been awhile since my last comment.
I will keep this short and sweet.
First, I started to like Adachi (barely though) but once she pulled that weak girl shit then I permanently dislike her for sure. So, with that said:
Rita: He can die.
Adachi: She can be left alone after Rita's death then eventually learn to make friends because of the confidence he gave her (so Rita's existence will serve some purpose)
Kousuke: Can fall madly in love with Hatori and make her happy. I kinda like his naughty side ;)
Hatori: Can eventually fall for Kousuke and be happy for once (YAY!!)
Najima: Can continue to be fabulous.
Moe: Stays crazy and cute.
The end.
Oh yeah-- did I mention that Rita could die? If not:
RITA CAN DIE!!!!
