ヒロイン失格 (Heroine Shikkaku) - Chapter 12
Hatori: "Hahah, you only realise it now?" and Rita leans over and kisses Hatori!!!!! (OMG~ I totally did not expect this!!!)
Hatori is in so much shock that she can't understands what just happened.
Rita smiles at Hatori, pats her head: "Let's go home."
Hatori's thoughts "Eh? Ermm.. What was that just now?
Hatori: "Rita! It's alright that you don't hold my hand."
Rita: "Aren't i holding your hand?"
Hatori's thoughts "What's happening? Dream? It's not a dream....
Hatori at home, reading Strobe Edge and imagining Rita's lips against hers. Feeling embarrassed, she rolls on her bed blushing.
Hatori's thoughts "My heart is feeling so squishing that i feel like dying. This is the first time Rita is looking at me."
Next scene shows Rita reading an email from Adachi and extract which says "I discover new things everything in Mexico. Even though i'm being wildful (coming to Mexico and telling Rita last minute) there are times when i'm feeling depressed but...
Rita's thoughts "What should i do? What have i done?"
Hatori's thoughts: "What should i do? What's going to happen tomorrow? It's like the usual, nothing has changed. Is it my imagination? There is no mail neither." and she receive a mail from Nakajima asking Hatori if she's free the tomorrow.
Rita, at his veranda: "What are you doing?" Wait for me."
Hatori's thoughts "Isn't he seems to be a little happy seeing me coming to his house?"
Hatori's thoughts "I don't wish to hear these from Rita."
Rita: "It's not like that. I did it because i want to do it during that time."
Hatori's thoughts "HUH?" and she asked" "What do you mean by that?" and her thoughts "Don't tell me Rita is unsure of his own feelings too."
Rita: "I will go after putting Muku back in the house."
Hatori: "You've already kissed me... and i'm bothered about Adachi.. so she's considered out right? Rita, yesterday you asked 'What do i know about you right?' However, for Rita, you know nothing about me too isn't it?" Rita... you know that kissed didn't happen yesterday right? That is why, at least for once, look at me as a woman." and Hatori thinks to herself "Please, give me a chance."
Rita: "You want to go for a movie? It's already evening so we will only go for dinner after the moive."
Rita: "You make a move first to the train station, i will catch up after putting Muku in the house.... am i the worst?"
Hatori: "It's alright! Even if you are the worst, i will always be with you."
And the went on a date like a real couple and Hatori's thoughts "I'm sure there is not another chance like this. God, it must be because i've worked hard enough.....
Hatori: "Rita... I like you."
Rita: "What is that?"
Hatori: "I felt very happy today."
Rita: "I see."
Hatori: "Adachi... she's great isn't it? Went overseas to pursue her dream. She seems like she's a human of a different level from us."
Rita: "I think so too."
Hatori: "She works really hard however i don't understand how can she leave you alone, even if it's for a month, i think it's so lonely for Rita."
Rita: "um..."
Hatori: "She should have at least discussed with you a few months before."
Rita: "You think so too right? However, she's working hard alone so i need to support her too."
Hatori: "If it's me, i will never do such a thing."
Hatori's thoughts "At such a good timing, one more step to go."
Rita: "Eh? Huh?"
Rita: "Adachi? Outside?"
Hatori's thoughts "HUH?"
Adachi is outside the resturant where Hatori and Rita are having their dinner and her hair grew longer.
Hatori's thoughts "This can't be true."
Adachi: "I was so shocked when i saw the both of you."
Rita: "I'm the one who should be shock. You reach today?"
Adachi: "I'm on my way back from the airport."
Rita: "You should contact me when you are coming back."
Adachi: "Um.. i thought i'm going to be tired and unable to meet today so i thought of contacting you tomorrow giving you a surprise. Matsuzaki-san, it's a long time since we met."
Hatori: "You seems to have slimmed down, Adachi-san."
Adachi: "Yup, a little."
Hatori's thoughts "NO!....
Adachi bought tons of souvenir for Rita.
Rita: "How much did you buy?"
Adachi: "I'm sorry, i will bring them home today and bring them bit by bit to school."
Rita: "You are going home?"
Adachi: "You take your time with Matsuzaki-san."
Rita: "Wait a minute. I will walk you there."
Hatori's thoughts "We are in the middle of everything."
Adachi: "It's just to fulfill my own satisfaction, those souvenirs. When i encounter tough time over there, i will choose a souvenir for Terasaka-kun and i will wonder if you will be happy with the present i choose....
Hatori's thoughts "Come back quickly." and finally, Rita is back.
Hatori: "Welcome back."
Rita: "Um."
Hatori: "Let's leave our conversation at where we stopped. Do you want to go for Karaoke? I've got the feeling of wanting to sing."
Rita: "Hatori, about the things you said just now... Thank You. I was very happy. Yesterday, during the fireworks, i was happy too. It has always been the case since a long time ago. Hatori never laugh at my weakness. Always stays by my side so naturally. I'm used to having you beside me...
Hatori: "What should i do?" with her face close to Nakajima's.
Nakajima: "You are too close! What should you do? You should do this isn't it? In the end, you should escaped."
Hatori: "Is that so?"
Nakajima: "Yes. Everyone in the world will run away if they are treated this way by a guy."
Hatori: "I... i've been feeling scared since yesterday. Rita didn't even said he's sorry. This are really hanging in mid air. For the time being, things that did not happen i will take it as it did not happen." (I think Hatori is trying to tell herself that the nothing happened during the summer vacation.)
Hatori's thoughts "Nothing of this happened before...
Back in school, Nakajima sees Rita.
Nakajima: "Hahaha... how's your morning exercise? Like some refreshing young guy? I see. You are like a BAKA who just run without thinking."
Rita's thoughts "It has come." (Nakajima defending Hatori)
Nakajima: "Don't try to be a nerd (ダサい- it does not really means nerd i think... i usually use it to say when one's fashion sense is poor.. i'm not sure if there's other meaning to it.) I will kill you....
.... What do you plan to do from now?"
Hatori's narration: "I want Nakajima to treat Rita worse than this."

How??? Mikimata!!! I think this chapter is one of the best chapter (For bring me up to heaven and dumping me to hell at the end of the chapter!!!) but the worst chapter for Hatori!!!! Now i hate Rita. argh. He just crossed the line! I'm so starting this Rita HATE club!!! Rita is really weak.. emotionally. argh. Poor Hatori.

What is Rita doing?! He keeps jumping back and forth. I think it's guilt more than anything that keeps him with Adachi. Poor Hatori... I hope Nakajima slaps him to his senses.

Wow! I was totally not expecting Rita to kiss Hatori! That was huge. He actually accepted her feelings and took her on a date...everything! I was kind of "in shock," just like Hatori. Unfortunately, after reading this chapter, I've come to believe Rita has huge, gross emotional problems. I don't think Hatori should even be his friend at this point. She should cut him out of her life entirely, because he is seriously disturbed. He is a terrible friend, a worse boyfriend (he cheated on Adachi!), and simply a bad person. It's ironic that he's so afraid of being alone; he DESERVES to be alone.

Please someone kill Rita, he is complete failure as a guy. And Hatori should stop being idiot, good thing she has such a great friend Nakajima. Now i'm wating for Kousuke's move coz i have the impression that Rita took for granted that Hatori is always stuck to him an will never leave his side.

What a CREEP!!! CREEP ALERT!! Can't stand a weak man who can't decide and have no self-control. In fact, his whole appearance speaks volumes. What's with that sleepy look! Fujioshi, I am definitely a member of your Rita-HATE-Club. I totally agree with Nakajima. One should run for the opposite direction if one were to encounter such a guy. What is wrong with Hatori? She has totally no sense of safety...
I am trying to understand this mangaka's take on this manga... This is a very intriguing manga...

I was wondering, maybe Hatori will end up with Kousuke because her first kiss was with him, right? :D And she said her heart beats as fast as for Rita so there is still hope for Kousuke.
Ok so this chapter confirms it, Hatori sure is special to Rita but he doesn't love her. I think Kousuke was right, Rita's just selfish, he wants Hatori to stay beside him and don't want her to have a boyfriend, maybe the fact that he kissed her and took her on a date was just for her to not date anyone and stay by his side. If it's not the case, why would he do that after Kousuke asked him if it's alright if he is serious about Hatori? I think Rita is afraid that Hatori will leave him so he did all this.
But then like Hatori already told him, he better leave her alone and go to Adachi (if he doesn't love Hatori).
I think it's time for Hatori to give up and move on, she kept saying it since the begining but always return to Rita. It's just ridiculous and she will end up suffering again. Just let him suffers too.
Kousuke is better for Hatori, he understands her and is nice with her (but I hope he quits to be a playboy).

Yes, I agree with everyone here. I've been trying to hold out hope for Rita, but after this chapter...it's over. I just can't like him or wish him to be the "end guy" for our heroine anymore. I actually like Kousuke (even though he's a player); at least he is honest about what he is, plus he's very smart and calls people on their crap. I still smile remembering him calling Adachi a hypocrite, and telling Rita off for his selfishness!
I'm starting to wonder if the mangaka means this to be a story about a girl growing out of her childish "first love" and discovering what it is to have a real love / romantic relationship. Kousuke did tell Hatori she was in love with the idea of loving Rita rather than Rita himself - and Kousuke seems to be right on with his observations about people. But who knows? I seriously have no idea where this story is going - so I applaud the author for originality! But it is definitely an emotional rollercoaster.
I'm rooting for Kousuke. Although he's player, when it comes to Hatori he is sincere and somehow caring. And he sees through people(said that Adachi is despicable). From the other side Rita royally pisses me of. He is just so lame, really good match for Adachi with this fake mask of hers.
Agree with Mikimata about the author being original. Rika's such a douche, and not just 'he's just stupid, accidentally hurting the female lead', he's a proper cheating douche. Rare for shoujo. I mean before I thought he was just trying to let Hatori down while remaining friends with her so I didn't think he was that bad, but now :O

Even Kousuke became an interesting (bitchy) character, and became more interesting than his sterotype. If he finds out he will snap at Rika I bet xD

I love your Dengeki Daisy summaries and I read all your Heroine Shikkaku ones together with the scanned chapters since it seemed interesting and I love it XD
After this chapter I feel that my convintion that Rita is not the 'right guy' has been totally confirmed. Not even he knows what he wants, nor from Adachi nor from Hatori. And I think Kousuke is perfect: he speaks his mind and isn't afraid to; and I believe, for a person like Hatori that often sticks to daydreams, he is perfect.
He sure has his faults, but so does Hatori and the other characters :)
I hope the story will be progressing this way!

Like many people here, I want to the direction of the story going to Kousuke, but I wouldn't be surprised if the author decides to use this situation to make Hatori grow up and realize of certain things that eventually will finish with him and Adashi together or something D:.
BUT I'm dying to see a genuinely Kousuke x Adashi relationship *3*!!

This manga is like Wuthering Heights in that if you read it as a love story, you're bound to walk away with some pretty dangerous messages. If, however, you read it in the way it was intended - as an examination of obsession and vengeance and the gross, appalling stuff humans can get up to within such dynamics - you're in for a compelling, pathos-heavy ride.
In that vein, this is one of those rare mangas where the story itself trumps the (mostly unlikable) characters - the plot is what interests me. I find myself becoming invested with the hopes that the main characters get their comeuppance.
Of course most of us want Rita to end up alone and miserable for reasons that need not be explained, but the real problem in the whole dynamic is Hatori. Jerks like Rita get away with their behavior only when they are allowed to - and Hatori continues to give him permission to treat her this way. It's not like she's a character whose particularly lacking in self-esteem, that she doesn't feel she deserves better, that Rita has made her his victim with his intermittent reinforcement and mental abuse. Her attachment to him has nothing to do with his manipulations and everything to do with her single-minded, unwavering desire to get what she wants no matter what the cost - even if she's the one who takes the brunt of said cost. She sacrifices other people, Rita's own feelings, common sense, dignity, anything and everything just to own and possess another human being.
I think we take our frustrations out on Rita because, well, Hatori gets her comeuppance for her poor behavior every single chapter - she's not getting off scot-free for her unwavering commitment to this unhealthy, destructive obsession. It's slowly consuming her from the inside out - at one time she may have been able to separate her own sense of self from her feelings for Rita, but she's gotten to the point where she exists only for him and the pathetic hope for his love.
But Rita, who feeds this monster, gets to have his cake and eat it too. It is, indeed, frustrating to see a lively, spirited girl destroy herself for some husk of a guy who can rarely even be bothered to have an expression, let alone a figgin' conscience.
So, yes, my hope for him is to be plagued with feelings. And my hope for Hatori is that she bottoms out with the knowledge of the terrible person she's become for this worthless pursuit. And if she emerges on the other side with something resembling an identity - and the understanding that it's the grossest violation to try to control or manipulate another human being (Girl seriously needs to cut that crap out) - all the better.
I imagine it probably won't turn out this way... but, I'll definitely be back next month to see what kind gross stuff these repugnant characters get up to next.
I know most people don't like Rita, but for me, the one i don't like is Hatori. I do think that Rita is doing some awful things and he needs to make up his mind but Hatori is at fault too. She should have realized long ago the truths. I think she's being obsessive and delusional. She needs to stop trying to be "the perfect heroine" and realize that maybe this isn't her love story. I would LOVE it if there was a reversal at the end and she comes out at the end without Rita. I love was SoFree said. I want her to come out with some personality. Not her trying to be some heroine. Her, single, happy. Something like that. :]
So annoyed by Hatori, she should just move on! UGHHHHH
