キミのとなりで青春中。Chapter 21
This chapter starts with a man standing at a cross road not know which is the right way home.
In school, Gutsu chan and Miu were choosing and purchasing photos from the year end ski trip when Keita suddenly hugged her from behind. He persuaded Miu to help buy his share as he's going arcade with Gutsu chan's boyfriend to play UFO catch. Unwillingly, Miu agreed to help him.
Two juniors, girls asked Miu for a favor and Miu thought it's regarding Keita however it's not. The two juniors wanted to purchase one of the photos with Miu and Keita in it. They admire couples like Miu and Keita who are childhood friends and know everything about each other. Miu is thrilled especially when they said they admire her and Keita. Miu and Keita have been togther for almost 17years and naturally they know everything about each other even each other's family. It is not wrong when one says that they know everything about each other.
When Miu is still on cloud nine (still happy about the admiration by two juniors), Gutsu chan saw a weird man standing outside the ramen stall. It turned out to be Keita's father! Keita's father is a bio research fellow, he's hardly home due to his work. Even though he has been living beside Miu for 17 years, Miu doesn't understand him and still so now when he bladders nonstop about biology related stuff when Miu merely asked if he wanted to eat ramen as she saw him staring at the menu.
Keita's father offered to pay for the meal however he did not have his wallet with him thus, he asked the shop owner if he's allowed to pay using his labour. In the end, Miu foot the bill. Keita's father apologized for causing Miu trouble as he needs Miu to show him the way home. On their way home, Gutsu chan commented that Keita does not resembles his father at all and Miu wonders if Keita resembles more of his mother instead as they have the same cheeky gin. Keita's father said it is impossible as they did not give birth to Keita thus in a biology point of view... and he goes on and on and Miu doesn't seems to hear anything at all. She is in shock to heard that Keita is not their son and the fact that she does not know is even more shocking to her.
Miu brought Keita's father home and offered to boil water for tea. When she's in the kitchen, she wonders if Keita's father is joking but he is not such a person. Keita is home and showed his father the toys he caught from the UFO catch. Miu looked at them and thought to herself "For 17 years, i see them as a blissful family however they are not a real family!" Keita saw Miu and asked why is she day dreaming. Miu said there nothing and turns away, she is unable to face Keita now. Keita thought she's not her usual self and asked if something happened. Miu accidentally hit the pot's handle and the hot water scalded her leg.
Keita quickly carried her to the bathroom to cool her leg with cold water. Keita saw Miu tearing and asked if her leg still hurts. (He looks so cute with the worried look!) Miu continued crying. Keita is worried and asked Miu to quickly tell him what happened.
Miu: "Your father told me you are not his real son."
Keita was shocked when he heard that but soon recover from it and said: "You didn't know? I'm sorry, why did my father suddenly bring this up? My real mother is actually my mother's friend, she passed away after giving birth to me and thus, my mother brought me home and brought me up. I thought you knew about this and it is nothing worth crying over."
Miu: "Oh, I didn't know and i'm shocked. It seems like you've suddenly become someone i don't know."
Keita hugs Miu in his arms: "I'm who i am regardless of whose son i am."
In Keita's arms, Miu thought "It is still the same Keita that i know, the same warmth. The feeling of uncertainty is gently dissipating. Keita is smiling thus there is no reason for me to feel uncertain however I soon know i was too optimistic."
This chapter is sad (T_T) i didn't expect this at all.

I realised i'm missing Chapter 23. (＞＜;) I bought Betsucomi from the 7th issue onwards which has Chapter 24. Anyone has Chapter 23 and is willing to share?

@Anonymous: I'm doing great! (*^-^)b♪ For tankoubon, vol. 5 is the latest with chapters 19 to 22. Today, chapter 27 will be out in Betsucomi (10th issue). Will be getting it after work today! o(^-^)o Not to worry, things will lighten up soon. ^^
That was totally unexpected! Isn't there a chance that Keita was lying when he acted as if he always knew he was adopted? 'Cause he really looked like he was forcing himself to smile afterwards, I don't think he would look so troubled just because his girlfriend heard it.

Hmmm... why the sudden talk about him being adopted? what purpose does this serve in the story? I've a bad feeling... i hope it is not some cannot live with kind of past which Keita wanted to keep a secret from Mui and if she found out, he would feel totally not suitable for Mui.
@peppermint_fairy: I think he knew about it all the while now that i recallthe previous chapters, the mangaka left some not-so-obvious hints with Alex and her brother, they too aren't blood related.
@Ankemaybe: Seriously, i too want to know the purpose! Isn't Kimi no Tonari a sweet and light hearted read?!? Adoption's a pretty heavy topic however things will lighten up pretty soon in the next few chapters. Somehow i think Keita's real father will appear in the later chapters.
Anyway, you read Strobe Edge? I guess you did. heh. i was reading last it last night and you know i've got this urge to msg you and tell you that it's so sweet i think i'm getting diabetes! Too bad it's the final curtain call. (/_;)/~~
Urrgghhhh.... I'm so frustrated! Usually, we get the magazine on the same day. It has been so for the past 3 months. However, this month's Betsuma is delayed. I will only get it tomorrow afternoon.
