DEAR！- Chapter 2
Finally got down to do Chapter 2 of DEAR!
"Kazusa and Banri are very important childhood friend to Rei. However, she is feeling doubtful."
Narration: I might have liked Banri if i didn't have such thoughts. (hmm. i don't quite understand Rei's thoughts here.)
A familiar morning sight. Banri and Kazusa are surfing!! (Slurp! i love beach boys!) Rei brought them breakfast.
Rei was grumbling that she's busy helping out in her house as it's summer and yet she needed to sent them breakfast. Banri said:"Isn't it alright? I lent you my bike and food which Rei prepares is delicious!" Both Banri and Kazusa were sucking up to Rei about her cooking. Rei's heart skipped a beat and she rebutted Banri that he does not judge a girl on her cutlery skills. Banri agreed with her. Rei thought to herself: Even though he is such a guy, i still feel a little happy. Banri to me now is a little different, a little more than just a childhood friend. Flashback of Banri protecting her from the broken window. She saw a handkerchief on his arm.
She asked Banri if his wound is alright as it's not a bandage but a handkerchief. Banri as if trying to avoid answering her said something like it's only a small cut.
Scene changes to Rei having difficulty starting Banri's bike as it's abit "rusty". She gave it a kick! Upon seeing that, Banri commented that Rei's actions and dressing are not feminine and since she owned a long skirt she should wear it once in awhile. Rei she knew she does not look feminine and told Banri that she does not look good in it and it didn't matter.
Banri said: "Seriously, you don't look cute when you are dishonest." Rei stunned. Kazusa gave banri a kick in the back. Rei looked at Kazusa and he gave a signal asking her to leave. Banri apologized for what he said. Rei just stuck out her tongue. Rei thought to herself: At that moment, no words came out even though we've always be able to converse normally.
Rei continued to wonder why Banri held her hand and they played truant when they were supposed to look for the lost kid. Then she thought that's Banri usual self, he has not change at all and somehow, she's feeling sad.
Rei was pushing the bike and accidentally hit a girl. She thought the girl was very pretty and Banri would agreed to if he had saw her. She felt relieved that he's not around. Someone was chasing the girl and she's on the run.
Rei shouted: "Hop on!" She offered to help the girl escape with the bike even though she had no idea why and she wondered if Banri and Kazusa would be proud of her.
Banri asked Kazusa what was his hesitation, since he liked Rei, he should let her know his feelings and they might be able to get together. However he added that until now, Rei does not see them as man. Kazusa replied that it's good that Banri realised it and sometimes pretending ignorance is happy.
Kazusa questioned Banri's intention of his actions during the fireworks night. Banri seemed a little shocked and said it's only for fun and mentioned that Kazusa is reading too much into his actions.
Banri and Kazusa got out from the sea and they were guess boobs sizes. (oh, typical guys) Kazusa noticed Banri looking around and asked what was he looking for. Banri said: "Won't it be great to meet destiny again?"
Kazusa looked shocked when he heard banri's answer. Meanwhile, Rei with the girl was still running away for the very persistent guy. They both said: "Otsukareta!" (which means tired). They looked at each other.
and burst out laughing. The girl saw a cut on Rei's hand. Rei said it's a small matter. The girl took out her handkerchief to bandaged Rei's hand. Rei thanked her and commented that she's skillful. She giggled and said someone said the same thing to her too. The girl thanked Rei for helping her to escape from the man and said it was enjoyable and it's like in the movies. Rei looked at her various expressions and thought that she's really cute.
And thought that's how a girl is suppose to be like. Rei asked why was the man chasing her. The girl said she just moved here and the man offered to show her around the area but he brought her to a weird place instead. Rei sigh. The girl apologized and thought Rei was troubled as she was talking non stop. Rei said that the girl was the opposite of her and that she looked cute and pretty in dress. Then she remembered Banri commenting about her not being cute. (She keeps having flashbacks of Banri.)
The girl said that she though Rei was wonderful to help someone she didn't know and it's cool to be able to drive around with the bike. Rei was the opposite of her and she envied Rei. Rei said that they seemed to hit of pretty well even when they did not know each other's name. They went on to introduce themselves. The girl's name is Suzuki Yukari.
Rei offered to send Yukari home but she said she had something on. When Rei was about to leave, Yukari called Rei and told her that she though Rei would look good in a dress too and she should not label herself as someone not suitable of wearing dress. Flashbacks of the conversation between her and Banri about her not being cute enough. (Flashback of Banri again!) Rei thought that she does not want to have regrets and neither does she wants to feel sad nor deceive herself. She thought that she was a little stubborn too.
Rei appeared in a long skirt at the beach. Looking kind of unsure and embarrassed, she asked Banri and Kazusa what time do they plan to play till.
Both Banri and Kazusa was shocked. Eyes widen when they saw Rei in a long skirt. Rei was looking at Banri with teary eyes and wondered why they did not say a word. Banri said: "Isn't it great? You look good in it!"
Rei blushed and smiled to herself.
Rei thinks to herself that Banri is the reason why she is working hard for and she likes him for who he is. She feels unsure but she should be honest with her feelings. And someone called her.
It's Yukari. Rei wondered why she's here while Yukari said that she looked good in the dress. Banri asked if they knew each other and Rei stood in front of Yukari with her arms open as if protecting her. Banri scratched his head and wondered what Rei was doing. Rei looked worried as she knew Banri would make a move on Yukari soon.
Yukari walked in front of Banri and thank him. Rei's puzzled and asked if they knew each other. She's the lost boy's sister. Rei thought the world is small. Banri thanked Yukari for the handkerchief on his arm while Yukari asked if his wound was alright. Banri replied saying that because of her it got better. Rei was looking at the both of them. (She must be feeling worried!)
Rei wondered if she's thinking too much but Banri was different this time as compared to when he's with other girls. Yukari came here thinking that she might be able to bump into them and was surprised to see Rei too. She said she's happy to meet Banri and Rei again and she turned towards Kazusa looking really pleased and said she's really happy to be able to meet him again and she was hoping to meet him! Kazusa looked at her expressionless while Banri and Rei puzzled.

Now i'm curious! Yukari and Kazusa knew each other! I wonder what's their history and their relationship. Well, i think it's kind of obvious that Yukari likes Kazusa. hmm... i still like Banri even though he still appears to be like some kind of jerk?

thanks for summarizing chapter 2!
That was a surprise! I really thought Yukari would like Banri back (It's quite obvious he's at least a bit interested in her, since he kept her handkerchief around his arm and talked about "a fated meeting"), and now it turns out she's more intersted in kazusa. Mmh, I'm not sure she could be an ex girlfriend...since kazusa's been friends with rei and banri since they were children, I think they would have known if he had a girlfriend? And he seems to have been in love with rei for some time now, so what's the chance of him having had a serious relationship before? Maybe yukari had a one sided crush? Anyway, it seems like she's gonna cause a lot of trouble to rei by monopolizing the guys' lives...she'll probably run after kazusa, while banri runs after her...I'm also curious to find out whether she's really as nice as she seems, or she has a mean side as well.
@peppermint_fairy: Yup! I thought Yukari would like Banri too but it turned out otherwise. Which kind of made the story more interesting IMO. Maybe something happened during the fireworks festival night when Kazusa was alone looking for the lost boy? It seems unlikely for him to have a ex gf like you mentioned. I'm curious if Yukari has a mean side as well!! She's portrayed like a super nice girl with flowers blooming all around her in this chapter.
Thanks for the summary of this managa. Actually I don't like much Yukari. I'm more interested in Rei's character, she's muche more complex and more-dimensional.I think she'll end up with Banri.Well let's see how it proceeds. Thanks again
@Anonymous: I think Rei might end up with Banri too. Considering that they are the main protagonist but Yukari is sure going to stir up complications between them be it intentionally or not. Look forward to Chapter 3 =)
