居酒屋 (Izakaya)
居酒屋 (Izakaya) is a type of restaurant which also serves food to accompany the drinks. Companies usually have their 飲み会 (drinking sessions) at 居酒屋 (Izakaya) and they will order a standard 2500yen course plus a 1500yen 飲み放題 (free flow of drinks). Which amounts to 4000yen ($57.00). My heart aches when i NEED to go for such department gatherings and they are very good at coming up with all sorts of reasons such as: 歓迎会 (Welcome Party), 送別会 (Farewell Party), 忘年会 (Year End Party),新年会 (New Year Party) to organize 飲み(drinking sessions).
During such 飲み会 (drinking sessions), the Japanese will first order a 生ビル(beer) and the will wait till everyone's drink is here to do a 乾杯 (cheers). Most of the Japanese will drink more than half mug of the beer. Before the first dish is serve, they will have already finished their first mug of beer and when the first dish is serve, they will order their second mug or another alcohol drinks. They usually do not get drunk during the first round of 飲み会 (drinking sessions), they have second round called 二次会。This is when you see Japanese man singing and putting ties on their foreheads. Which means, whatever you saw in dramas, comics or animes, they are true in real life. No Joke!
These items are almost available in all 居酒屋 (Izakaya):
Alcoholic drinks: Sake (日本酒), beer (ビル), Shouchu (焼酎), Cocktails: Sour Mix (サワ), Chuihai (チューハイ), Wine and Whiske.
Food: Yakitori (焼き鳥), Kushiyaki (串焼き), Sashimi (刺身), Karaage (唐揚げ), Edamame (枝豆), Tofu and Tsukemono (漬物).
I had a friend here in Tokyo for business trip thus a few of us decided to meet up and had a nice dinner at 居酒屋(Izakaya). We ordered neither the course nor the 飲み放題 (free flow of drinks). Thus the whole meal amounts to 2770yen ($39.00) per pax.
花炎(Kaen) - randomly entered one 居酒屋 (Izakaya).
appetizer - a small piece of broccoli, one deep fried potato and a piece of very nicely fried egg.
Innerts stew (もつ).
Sashimi (刺身) - i love fresh Sashimi (刺身)!
bbq of meat and innerts.
Karaage (唐揚げ) - well, its actually just bite size fried chicken but the waiter told us they use their in house miso sauce. Frankly, i can't tell the difference. It tastes just like the microwave-able fried chicken i bought from the supermarkets.
very fatty meat with egg - i love fatty meat. I don't understand why they are not easily available in Japan and fatty meat are more expensive than lean meat in supermarkets.
